The Alaskan
Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus Tshawytscha), the MIGHTY
King! If you have ever wondered what it's like to
fight King Salmon, until your arms literally lock
up from lactic-acid buildup, fishing north in the
Mat-Su Valley is your answer. These Mat-Su Valley
streams offer anglers a chance of multiple hook-ups
of (25 - 60lb) King Salmon. This fishery is a fly
fisherman’s dream, with numerous gravel bars
to hook, fight, and land these giant salmon on.
While
most people concentrate on fishing these creeks
at their confluences with the Big Susitna River,
D Ray Personal Guide Service provides an NRS-cataraft
in which to float these Mat-Su Valley streams,
starting at the Parks Highway. The cataraft provides
access to the better gravel bars, where it's not
uncommon to see and hook kings in the double-digits.
Since this Mat-Su Valley fishery is weekends only (Saturday,
Sunday, and Monday). Space and availability
is limited.
